The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 结尾把无厘头改得很理想，却让人觉得没那么理想了。
是很真实的青春片，本来看评论很担心感情线。但是却是点到为止很朦胧的那种，其他时候都在游泳和挨骂。以及拼命去实现自我。好耶
看了些好评才去看的，结果...什么玩意儿啊
「我们只被自己定义。」很优秀的一部青春励志片，真正燃野少年的泳池！每一个最普通的“张伟”，也能努力地“高飞”。清清爽爽的新人演员们带来了今年最舒舒服服的电影。超适合暑期档的电影，奈何被推上了十一档，实在是可惜。
男生的语言逻辑、行为逻辑写得非常好，也很好笑，值得学习。
其实拍得还不错，也不尴尬，本土化得挺好，唯一出戏的是不太像国内的高中，更像是大学。可能就是我不太吃青春片的风格的原因吧，看下来总觉得没啥共鸣。
没有技巧，全是感情。居然有主办方会愚蠢到要砍掉唯一的男子花游项目？？普通自卑的高中生日常，热血的点其实也很简单，哪里需要头破血流狗血淋头。也有可能是满屏美好的肉体使我色令智昏。
光线扑腾这么久，终于拍出一部达标青春片。虽然是向日版借了要招，没有中二物语感，也避开关联多元性向群像，改编重点是去强化男子学花游和整个事件过程的可信逻辑和落地性。在这类型的固定框架里做出了一套顺滑的动作姿势。
萌蠢和活力是够了，中二和热血还差了那么一啾啾，但对于国产青春剧已经算是惊喜了。
3星。很励志、很青春、画面美、剧情不狗血、小演员演技也很好，音乐也选的好，说起来都是优点，但全程无法入戏，整个感觉平淡，和那些常规的CCTV6影片观感没什么区别。

日影故事打底，本土化也非常成功，有点出乎意料，因为这些年翻拍翻车的太多，都ptsd了，海报封面的字体都一样。五个男生也都挺帅的，青春的气息真好，羡慕年轻人，充满活力，不像我这个死气沉沉老气横秋的中年人。【咪咕视频】

虽然很理想主义，但是挺热血的，有时候需要一些不切实际的正能量，比大部分国产青春片都好，热切期待男花游进入奥运会啊

就是这样的鲜肉满溢不被定义的少年气逆袭被无新鲜感剧情和无记忆点表演公式化到了只有哪吒和池舞两幕热血。
