The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 很扎实，几处定格就把人物心理展露无遗，事情的转折看似什么都没讲，但呈现的结果已在情理之中，好笑又大条。
大师级的拍摄水准，所有的运镜都流畅成熟。如果说故事本身的话，完全就展现了一个toxic relationship。男主身上全是直男的自信自负和不负责任，虽然有着一定的商业头脑，但他就是个没有长成的小男孩，身体和心理上的双重不成熟。女主又是标准的眼高手低，她能解决一些男主的危机但是离开男主跨入真正的成年人的世界后她也过得一塌糊涂。这两个人分分合合到最后应该也还是一种自相残杀吧。
感情跳跃，叙事凌乱，全靠观众脑补，妄称大作。神棍之辈必有神棍之徒追捧。
看了PTA四五部片子，反而是这部风评最差的对了我的胃口，值得反复拉片的摄影和剪辑，主人公脸上合时宜的青春痘，大时代下迷惘混沌又恣意蓬勃的小青年，被时代推着滚动前进，像美国风情画一样的剧本，多少是有些散漫，但绝不是个小格局的糖水片

3.5，PTA的电影总是独树一帜的，他总能用在小清新和变态之间存在的眩晕感迷惑观众，难得可贵的格局如此小的爱情故事居然在颁奖季收获这么多的提名，虽然个人不是很喜欢，但确实是去年值得一看的美国电影。
PTA 的血色將至、大師曾令我歎為觀止，也私心偏愛私戀失調、乃至“混亂”的性本惡看著也很爽。甘草披薩節奏感舒服，不複雜的故事，不典型的人，但整個沉醉無法自拔的時代濾鏡，就很無聊。讓我很難不換一個視角揣測，如果我是一個洛杉磯美國人我會不會像討厭《芳華》一樣，討厭甘草披薩。
带孩子看的，我全程看手机，看完以后，6岁的女儿跟我说“有点幼稚”，6岁的孩子都嫌幼稚，那得有多幼稚？
PTA许是老了，镜头语言和横向调度自然驾轻就熟，外表看上去也还有点“怪鸡”，内核却已经俗不可耐了，还有套路的情节编排和刻意的符号填充，只能算是“作者式行活儿”。
A Sour Minty Romance🍸
可真是太私人了，私心多到琐碎，故事剪成饺子馅，一开始我觉得，这是一个关于抓不住的青春，以及等不到的成年的深沉故事，但最终这些东西都被乱七八糟的私人情感擦去，还真就只是一个爱情故事，当然有些地方还是佳句频出，让人不禁沉浸在往日时光中，或许PTA他就是一个只会拍过去的人。
優點明顯。首先小馬們都很美。其次表達主題在當今世界很需要從小對小朋友滲透：消除偏見，隔閡，追求相互溝通和理解，要有大愛大胸懷。
【6.5=】难得找回了几年前的一点欢乐。制作组就像后复联时代的漫威，一边说着要推陈出新一边又不舍老角色的大腿，甚至一些有意思的小设定还以另一种形式继承了下来。但除了主角团的戏份差距外，整个故事的结构也相当不平衡。90分钟的时长还是承载不下这么多内容，一通赶之后依然只能机械降神。不过值得表扬的是，终于塞了几个看起来有点现实影子的角色，起码让这个世界观不是那么浮于幻想。虽说只是新玩具的推广品，但是横向对比同年从主题到故事都同样陈旧的《夏日友晴天》，似乎也没有太差劲，起码马还是比人要可爱点。
失望，非常平庸的作品并点缀上了一些不明所以的情节安排，一些设定和角色完全不起作用。第一幕出现的子弹到最后一幕也仍是子弹，角色几乎没有弧光，食之无味
好看，慢慢的品，一切皆有安排，太喜欢女主啦！喜欢她穿衣风格。不是一眼美女，越看越有味道，眉间距有点近，恰好放下笔直鼻子，有意思。重点看到西安潘还是那么帅！
颁奖季大热门就这？2星技术，1星配乐，没了。
（另外，虞书欣的配音真的好棒，很贴角色和情绪，甜甜的太可爱了！）
