The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. authoritarianism就是寄生在..身上的毒瘤！它敲骨吸髓，畸形生长，最后完全控制..，然后通过obscurantism达到继续虹吸养分的目的。为了攫取更多利益，Authoritarian politician “背”着..干了很多见不得人的勾当，但只给..看愿意让他们看到的东西，通过秀肌肉、暴力、恐吓等手段让他们不要乱说乱动，全面配合自己做恶。善良的人们经过多年的观察，终于看清authoritarianism的丑恶嘴脸，纷纷与之割席分坐，并且形成anti authoritarianism力量，在其帮助之下，..自我意识逐渐觉醒，经过艰苦卓绝的抗争终于把authoritarianism关进牢笼，但这只是暂时的偃旗息鼓，..应该时刻警惕死灰复燃！
就拍恐怖片吧… 有些画面和想法 只适合漫画
惊喜的是，当一直以为前半段反复的杀人场景和幻想会奠定故事发展方向时，结局“双胞胎”的设定着实惊讶，从“鬼片”变成了悬疑惊悚片，有不错的力度，但可惜在这反转后，依然感觉整部电影充满遗憾，特别是国内版删减的四分钟，整整把最精彩的部分给减了，不过重点商讨的依然是恐惧感和故事性，温子仁在恐怖场景灯光的运用确有大师风范，可在这部电影里也仅限如此，即使加上原版的四分钟，依旧不能强挽匮乏的吓人程度，而在故事性上，前半段实在是勾起不了对电影深思的考虑，太多运用恐怖手段和杀人到场景的过渡，想要一直迷惑观众直到最后的高潮反转，却也丢失很多直观的体验，只会觉得有丝拖沓和逻辑上的漏洞。这也几乎是温子仁少有的难以吓到的恐怖片，但能让这种R级片同时期登上国内市场，也实在是让人感到欣慰和激动啊，希望未来有更多这样的机会

刺激到写不出影评了。7分只是有人的观影渠道不对。
元素很多，恐怖、惊悚、悬疑、科幻、动作甚至超英元素都有。恐怖惊悚类最难的就拍出新意，寄生双胞胎的设定确实有一定新颖性，但故事乏善可陈，更像是一部有点小巧思的网飞片，全靠导演温子仁的名号“上价值”。成片确实让人失望，觉得“就这”？前半段就是一个带点悬疑的杀人犯罪片，男警察的作战能力让人惊讶。后半段谜底揭开确实有一丝丝对真相的震惊感，接着监狱和警察局流畅的动作戏和血浆又提升了“爽”度。由于故事本身很干瘪。难怪爱奇艺删掉点让人不适的镜头，就整成犯罪悬疑片上线了，但删掉那些不适和血浆的镜头也就没啥可看的了。整体三星，放在恐怖惊悚类这种很难上分的类型里勉强三星半。
