brutashell review - 'Filmed in black and white and primarily spoken in German, it is obvious that Die Farbe did not have a huge budget to work with. Effects are minimal and the cast is utterly unknown. I should point out that these are all good things, and work very much in the film's favour. There is no CGI to rely on, no name actors to carry it. Rather, the filmmakers do the unthinkable: they create a genuine atmosphere of unimaginable dread and unspeakable horror, using shadow, suggestion and rare splashes of that Nameless colour in a few select frames. In short, they did a damn good job. Die Farbe is subtle in its mounting horror, nurturing a dark dread deep in your bowels with every shot. All of the best and most stomach-turningly distressing films I’ve ever seen have come out of Germany: M, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, The White Ribbon, and now this one. Leave it to the Germans. We know how to gross you out on the deepest psychological levels.
Lovecraft worshippers and devotees of German Expressionism alike, take heed: seek out and view this film at your earliest possible convenience. It’s a dark, noisome little gem that will squirm into your subconscious and lay its eggs in your sanity. Hey, not everyone gets the honour of being a host organism for the Elder Gods, you know.'
翻拍美国四十年代的片子，阵容豪华，大牌云集。影片长达两个半小时，以男主角的经历，可以分成两个部分。第一部分是男主角在乡村流动马戏团的崛起，凭其过人的天赋及年轻外表，他在马戏团顺风顺水技艺大长，并娶得美人归。第二部分则是他在都市的铩羽而归，他的欲望飙升，自信心爆棚，两个恶人相遇搞出血雨腥风，又被城市恶人玩弄于股掌，露出乡巴佬的本来面目。最后他的人生走出一个循环，坠入悲惨地狱。有可观赏性，只是叙事太啰嗦了，让观众紧张不起来。
抛开故事，看人性确实多么的真实，据说新版的结尾比旧版的要好很多，就是stan主动说自己天生就是做怪人的这个情节，原版都被和谐了。
《君子报仇十年不晚》、杀死一个人的只能是他自己本身，当开始做坏事的时候，也是开始丧失自我评价的时候，你会把自己定义为一个坏人，这个不用任何人报复，化学效应已经吞噬其本身。

不愧是三杰里面最无感的一位，陀螺这回倒是满足了自己的情怀和恶趣味，但用如此老套的执行来致敬实在是暴殄天物，愣是拿着王炸阵容顶级制作拍出来一坨又臭又长的裹脚布。魔兔如果没数错就同台一次交流不超三句，布莱德利库珀的演技也完全没法撑住那些怼脸大特写，实在不明白这种老白男覆灭的烂俗故事有啥翻拍的必要性。

我全程都不是特别关心这些角色……倒是有点让我想到Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus，那部电影好看多了。三星给Bradley的美颜。
不是吧，陀螺？一众大牌演了平淡的二战前故事，夹带太多陀螺的珍藏私货，尤其在嘉年华时期。
Substance, structure, graphics. Some wins, some losses. Fable-ish story, sometimes too in the face. Cooper, Blanchett, Mara, and Colette are spectacular.

吉尔莫德尔托罗自从《潘神的迷宫》后再无佳作，在我看来《水形物语》的获奖纯属莫名其妙，《三块广告牌》输得很冤。
美术和氛围感一如既往地好 但或许德托罗想要拍这样的故事 他需要一个克里斯托弗诺兰或乔纳森诺兰来搞编剧
4.5 陀螺这部的策略依旧是体制内相对保守的，但肌理仍旧是非常丰富的：从传统通灵到现代心理学、从男性欲望到女性主体、从黑色电影到作者恋物、从战时精神危机到当前后真相危机……形成一个自圆其说的闭环的同时，也因处在各种光影交错的过渡地带而实现了化骨绵掌式的惊人“内爆”。最重要的是，陀螺并不沉湎于过去和个人趣味，他始终在讲述现实。
服化道美术这些视觉部分还是很强啊。不过影片本身，更像是陀螺自己在还愿了，去重温一场旧梦。但这样的电影，在当下确实很少共鸣了。
审美拉满，情节拉胯。卡司强大，制作精良。既好看又难看，又臭又长的中年男人人生投机跌宕起伏回到原点且落魄的故事。前半段铺垫太长且无意义，后半段又进展太快。哎，真的是可惜了，这电影怎么不好看。两个半小时，感觉不知道演了个啥。
没有看过原版，觉得还挺好看，比较传统的剧情片。马戏团各种奇技也是一门失传的艺术了。吃鸡男的造型明显是来自Goya名画Saturn Devouring His Son😄
喜欢这一部超过《水型物语》，和原版不同的是，德尔·托罗更想抓住的是某种时代的精神，故事背景也从大萧条刚过不久转移到了二战，影片在某种程度上也是对“光荣一代”的解构，鲁尼·玛拉的角色比起原版有着非常明显的弱化。
问题或许出在成像风格上，陀螺的调子总感觉马上就有水怪或魔杖要登场了，而film noir要的只有黑色。PS. 达福演的那叫Clem Hoately啊
